Freedom…

...more than we know.

I grew up with a street comment that came up regularly.”It’s a free country.”

It came up after someone, usually an elder, suggested that we weren’t allowed to do something, but it was ingrained in my thinking and remains. We mostly see it as freedom of speech. Here’s where we are allowed to express our thinking unless it causes measurable harm to others, like yelling “Fire” in a crowded space when there is no cause for alarm. The thought about harm to others needs to demonstrate documented injury, like slander.

btw. This is true for the President and the press. They each have the freedom in America to say what they want whether it’s fake or presidential. “It’s a free country.” Like it or not.

Especially on this weekend where we celebrate our independence and freedom, we need to keep this in mind.
