As we watch the Olympics in Korea these days, it’s clear that the best competitors are going for the gold. I suppose that some have come with lesser expectations where just being there is thrill enough. Good for them.
Going for the gold is really essential if you plan to really do the best. It takes real work. I can’t imagine going for the bronze until it’s abundantly clear that silver and gold are beyond grasp.
Our own intentions this side of the Olympics should be along the same order. We should go for the best in who we can be. Not necessarily the richest, smartest, or most celebrated, but our best self. Why should we aim for the gold?
Because they don’t have Platinum.
