Long Beach Volunteers

It’s always a pleasure to be in the company of people who give of themselves to help others. Such was the case yesterday when we met at a luncheon to recognize volunteers of the Long Beach Citadel Corps. Captains Moy and Erica Hernandez invited us to share in this good occasion with a good meal and a terrific group of people.

Their volunteers support the cause from bell ringing to providing toys and numerous other roles, all contributing significantly to the mission of the corps. Appropriate plaques and awards were given and organized nicely.

When our volunteers join in with us so willingly, the become The Salvation Army themselves. They certainly are need more than ever before.

Philippians 2:1-4
“If you’ve gotten anything at all out of following Christ, if his love has made any difference in your life, if being in a community of the Spirit means anything to you, if you have a heart, if you care— then do me a favor: Agree with each other, love each other, be deep-spirited friends. Don’t push your way to the front; don’t sweet-talk your way to the top. Put yourself aside, and help others get ahead. Don’t be obsessed with getting your own advantage. Forget yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand.”
