In this beautiful movement of God known as The Salvation Army, we have the ‘Army Mother’ and we have Army Mothers. Neither is more important than the other. I can think of many Army Mothers throughout my journey in The Salvation Army. One of the best is Major Charlotte Coles. Recently, Charlotte was Promoted To Glory. Her Celebration of Life was yesterday at her corps in Toms River, New Jersey.
Everything was beautifully set and the most of the Coles family came together to share in the thrill of her entering heaven and the personal loss of her daily relationship with them. I was there to share in these moments. There was an ensemble from the New York Staff Band and flowers from all over. Major William Garrett, the Corps Officer had everything planned including the esteemed honor guard and white ribbons on the flag.
Altogether, it was a joy just to be together with good friends, remembering Charlotte’s influence upon us all. An amazing woman with an equally amazing witness of the grace of God, we will miss her significantly. Who will stand in her place? Who will convincingly share the love of Jesus to so many of us, pray us through situations, and act with mercy on our behalf. I’ll step up. You?
Thank you, Lord for this holy woman who was a deep gift to us all. We’re grateful to you that she now rests eternally with you. Hallelujah!
I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.”
