Having read an article today that challenges the veracity of The Salvation Army, it occurs to me that it might be time for a reminder about what we do and how it’s going.
The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.
Simply put. That’s it.
Unashamedly Christian, motivated the love of God revealed openly by love to humankind in His name.
Perfect at it? Not yet, but regularly trying to do our best. Last week in the Western Territory we served over 200,000 people in various ways. Over 700 came to faith in Christ. Hallelujah! Hundreds joined us as Soldiers or Adherents indicating their desire to serve God in the movement. Even more happened around the world in the name of God.
The Bible says, “If people say bad things against you, you must not say bad things back to them. Instead, you should pray that God will be good to those people.”1 Peter 3:9
It also says,“Woe to you, when all people speak well of you, for so their fathers did to the false prophets. Luke 6:26 (ESV)
So, we shouldn’t be surprised, but cautiously affirmed.
