Here we are confronted with a beautiful Divine expectation for believers and followers of Jesus. In a loving relationship with God, we are to love each other. This ‘agape‘ love is beyond the poets and songwriters of our day. This deep caring for each other is marked by respect, confidence, forgiveness, understanding, accountability and hope for each other.
Philippians 2:2 ESV “Complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind.”
The one mind here does not diminish our individual personalities or preferences. Our distinct perspectives are meant to enrich each others’ lives in unity.
1 Peter 3:8 ESV “Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind.”
Will there be moments and experiences that accentuate our differences? Absolutely. How we manage through these times will be the witness that reveals our holy connectedness. Do not fear. God is with us and will guide us through.
Listen to the third part of Jesus’ prayer just before His sacrifice for us:
John 17:21 ESV “That they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me.”
Our unity speaks loudly about the love of God and His efficacious presence within us. Look for it. Prove the truth.
