Deuteronomy 20:4 ESV “For the Lord your God is he who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies, to give you the victory.’”
This first verse is powerful and helpful. Can we doubt God’s veracity? Not me. In context, it goes like this:
Deuteronomy 20:1-4 ESV “When you go out to war against your enemies, and see horses and chariots and an army larger than your own, you shall not be afraid of them, for the Lord your God is with you, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt. And when you draw near to the battle, the priest shall come forward and speak to the people and shall say to them, ‘Hear, O Israel, today you are drawing near for battle against your enemies: let not your heart faint. Do not fear or panic or be in dread of them, for the Lord your God is he who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies, to give you the victory.’”
So apart from our military friends who are facing an enemy every day, what battles and enemies do we have? Many around us battle addictions that overpower them and are in need of a victorious Savior. Others are battling illnesses and hope for victory every day. Some people are being oppressed by circumstances or people beyond their control. Loneliness, depression, grief, and hopelessness are most common in the western culture today. All are in need of victory.
1 Corinthians 15:57 ESV “But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Our victory comes in the name and person of Jesus, the Son of God. Seek Him today even though the enemy wants to stop you.
Ephesians 6:13 ESV “Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.”
In victory, we stand firm and tall. It’s for you. Don’t delay.
